WHAT QURAN SAYS ABOUT THE SEVEN LAYERS OF EARTH??

The Earth’s atmosphere is a skinny envelope of gases surrounding the solid planet, the hydrosphere, and the biosphere. The composition of the atmosphere consists mainly of two elements, oxygen, and nitrogen. The atmosphere also contains chemicals that absorb heat from the Earth’s surface and radiate it in all directions including back to the surface. This results in the greenhouse effect that keeps the planet warm enough to sustain life on Earth. The greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, and methane. This article briefly attempts to describe a special view of the Quran with regard to the great mercy of Almighty ALLAH. In this report we discuss the miracles of Almighty ALLAH regarding the atmosphere of earth, which are described 1400 ago in the holy book “QURAN”, but researchers found that things today.

The Quran is full of reflection on the earth’s atmosphere. In this report we discuss what Earth’s atmosphere was referred to, as well as what the Quran calls an intermediary creation ‘between the Heavens and the Earth’, modern science has verified the latter. The verses referring to the Creation already contain a broad idea of what is to be found in the atmosphere, i.e. of everything inside and outside the earth.

Scientists have found that the Earth’s atmosphere consists of layers positioned on top of one another and that these layers differ according to their densities. Hence, scientists have declared seven different layers of the Earth’s atmosphere. The number “seven” has many indications in the Quran and in the prophet’s sayings (peace be upon him).

Earth's atmosphere is composed of several layers having different chemical and electrical properties.

In the Quran, it is clearly mentioned that Allah has made the sky a ceiling for those who reside on the planet Earth.

We made the sky a preserved and protected roof, yet still they turn away from Our signs.” [21:32]

The atmosphere refers to the air surrounding all around the Earth i.e. right from the ground to the edge from where space starts. The earth’s atmosphere is reported to have consisted of seven layers. The layers are reported to differ from each other due to different densities they possess.

The seven layers of the earth’s atmosphere are;

v Troposphere

v Stratosphere

v Mesosphere

v Thermosphere

v Exosphere

v Ozone

v Ionosphere

Some scientists agree that these layers are exactly the same as the seven skies the Quran has mentioned about Lamps refer to the “stars” which, as we know, are located external to the Earth’s atmosphere and even external to our solar system. In addition, the closest star to us is 4.30 light-years distant from us.

When visualising the galaxies in the universe, we find that they consist of trillions of stars which are to decorate the skies. We can say that the stars and the galaxies we see are in the nearest sky because Allah Almighty says:

“We adorned the nearest (lowest) heaven with lamps to be as an adornment” [Al-Mulk: 5]

The Quran is full of reflection on the Earth’s atmosphere. The main discussion is Earth’s atmosphere was referred to, as well as what the Quran calls an intermediary creation ‘between the Heavens and the Earth’, modern science has verified the latter.
